Last ...I haven't followed the news much lately. Last I heard about Western Tibet was last year and it was completely locked down by the Chinese authorities. No idea how things have evolved since then. All I know is that the road is now paved all the way. We ...Late answer as I have just found your comment. We did get a fine (approx $50 if I remember well). We didn't have to pay for the jeep ride back to Kashgar (they even paid for our accomodation and food on the way!), but we had to pay for the plane ticket to Urumqi. And no, we weren't blacklisted (two of us eventually carried on to Lhasa and cycled to Kathmandu). I will try to update the blog when (if!)
